En un descapotable del '57, van unos amigos, jóvenes, una de ellos agarrando el pañuelo en el aire que tenía cubriéndole el cabello, otro de ellos con lentes cuadrados, el de al lado con chaqueta de jean, y el último rebobinando la cassettera para volver a escuchar la canción. Van por una camino pavimentado de un solo canal, rodeado de praderas verdes, van de paseo, disfrutando el viaje. Bueno la sensación de esta escena se me vino en mente cuando escuché la tercera canción del soundcloud de Oh Margot! "Prime time yell".
BP: Besides music, what other activities do you spend time in?
BP: In what way the Chilean culture influence your songs? What could you say about the young cultural music movement in Santiago?
En cuanto al video:
J: El concepto lo armó Katalina Bakradze junto a Fab
Ciraolo. Fab conoció a Katalina a través
de sus ilustraciones, que circulan por toda la red. Katalina lo contactó para
trabajar juntos, y esa colaboración decantó en un video para Margot.
Conocí a la banda a través de Fab Ciraolo (baterista), quien hace unas de mis ilustraciones favoritas. A través de su twitter me encontré con el SoundCloud del grupo y lo que puedo decir es que ¡tres canciones no son suficientes! ¿Rock n' roll de esta era? ¡SÍ!
Cinco días atrás sacaron su primer video de la canción "Beautiful embracement" (el cual está más abajo en el post). Me pareció interesante la estética, así que quise conocer más sobre ellos. Empecé a indagar y no encontré mucho así que decidí contactarlos. José (voz y guitarra) de manera abierta y muy amablemente aceptó mi propuesta para conocerlos más a fondo. BP: ¿Cuáles
son sus influencias musicales como banda?
J: UUFFF muchísimas. Coincidimos en Elvis-Buddy Holly,
Ramones-Television & Jesus and Mary Chain - My bloody Valentine

J: En
casa siempre se escucho Sandro, Nino Bravo y Germain de la Fuente de los
Angeles Negros. Mi hermano me mostro el rock, y me pegué con las voces
de Ian Curtis, Elvis y Johny Cash.
BP: ¿Desde qué fecha están
juntos en el proyecto de Oh Margot? ¿Cómo y qué los motivó a unirse?
J: Nos conocemos desde siempre, somos
compañeros de colegio. El 2010 nos decidimos a armar la banda y en
diciembre 2011 lanzamos el EP HOW TO KILL SOMETIME.
BP: A parte de la música, ¿a
qué actividades dedican su tiempo?
J: La banda está formada por Chichi quappe
(mujer-sintetizadores), Chacho Vasquez (bajo), Fab Ciraolo (bateria) y jose
Ignacio rojas (guitarra y voz). Fab y yo estamos ligado a las artes
plásticas. Fab es ilustrador y yo arquitecto. Su trabajo lo encuentras en su página http://fabianciraolo.blogspot.com/ Chichi es músico de escuela. Estudia
flauta dulce en el conservatorio. Es una pequeña genio. Compatibilizar la banda
con nuestro trabajos no es fácil, mas aun ahora que Fab debe viajar
mucho por las exposiciones de sus obras.
BP: ¿De qué manera influye
la cultura chilena en sus canciones? ¿Qué podrían decir sobre la movida
cultural/musical "juvenil" actual en Santiago?
J: Somos una banda atípica para el medio
chileno.
BP: A mí a veces se me da
mejor expresar emociones en inglés que en español. ¿Por qué decidieron usar el
inglés como su idioma bandera?
J: Me gusta el inglés por que necesitas menos palabras que en
español para expresar la misma idea. Me gusta también que dependiendo
del contexto, la misma palabra sirva para masculino y femenino. Me encanta su
fonética al momento de crear melodías de voz.
BP: Tengo entendido que
ahorita tienen en exposición un EP que consta de "Beautiful embracement", "Prime time yell" y
"You want it all". ¿Tienen pensado agregar más temas y convertirlo en
LP? En tal caso, ¿producirían, además de las ediciones digitales, su material
en vinilo? (como en el video)
J: Así es. La misión de este EP de 3
canciones y sus videos es darnos a conocer fuera de Chile. Con ello, buscar ser
editados por algún sello internacional y pavimentar nuestro camino hacia un LP
de alta difusión. Soñar es gratis, pero estamos trabajando para ello. Tenemos
listos los 12 temas para el LP. Algo de eso ya estamos mostrando en vivo. Ahora
BP: ¿Qué países les gustaría visitar y darse a conocer como banda?
J: Ciertamente la primera parada debiera ser México. Tenemos un feedback constante de chicos que nos escriben en las redes sociales, lo que nos sorprende mucho y nos motiva a planear una vista pronto. La meta inmediata es lograr entrar a algún festival internacional. Vive Latino, Rock al Parque, son ideas que nos entusiasman muchísimo al corto plazo.

BP: Since when are you together as Oh Margot? How and what motivated you to join?

It goes like this: The first time i listened to Oh Margot was to the song "Prime time yell" and the feeling of it was: A group of friends in a fifty-something convertible, listening to a radio cassette, driving for fun, seeing the prairie, one with a jean jacket, the other with squared glasses, the other one with curly hair and the girl trying to catch her striped shawl.
I found the band thanks to the illustrations of Fab Ciraolo, which some of them are my favorite ones. He's the drummer, i started to follow him on twitter then the band, thats when i bumped into their Soundcloud. And i can say three songs aren't enough!!! ROCK N' ROLL FROM THIS ERA.
Five days ago they released the 1st video of the EP. I found the esthetics interesting and i liked it, so i started to look for more information about them, who were they, who directed the video. I couldn't find much so i asked them if they could answer some questions for The Color of the Beat and José (guitar-vocals) in the name of the band was very kind and said yes. So this is the result, enjoy!:

LET'S GET TO KNOW OH MARGOT!
J: UUUFFF we have a lot of them. We share the same taste like on Elvis-Buddy Holly, Ramones-Television & Jesus and Mary Chain-My bloody Valentine.
J: At home always listened to Sandro, Nino Bravo and Germain de la Fuente of Angeles Negros. My brother introduced me to rock and I got stuck with the voices of Ian Curtis, Elvis and Johny Cash.
J: We know each other since forever, we are school mates. In 2010 we decided to form the band and on December 2011 we released the EP HOW TO KILL SOME TIME.
J: The band members are Chichi quappe (woman-synthesizers), Chaco Vasquez (bass), Fab Ciraolo (drums) and José Ignacio Rojas (guitar-vocals). Fab and I (José) are into plastic arts. Fab is an illustrator and I am architect. You can find his work on his webpage http://fabianciraolo.blogspot.com Chichi is an educated musician, she studies the recorder (flute) at the conservatory. She’s a little genius. It is hard to juggle with the band and each of our jobs, more now tan ever because Fab has to travel a lot due to his art expositions.
J: We are an atypical band as for the Chilean music industry. We sing in English and we don’t really have deep influences from classics of the Chilean music. We are making our own way in this field anyway. It’s very rewarding to make music in Chile nowadays, considering that there are high-quality bands, with international projection as Astro, Javiera Mena, Dênver, etc, that at the same time have opened up opportunities for new bands.
BP: Sometimes I feel better expressing my emotions in English. Why did you choose english as the band's mother tongue?
BP: I understand that you guys have circulating an EP with "Beautiful embracement", "Prime time yell" and "You want it all". Have you thought of adding more songs to it and make it an LP? In this case, would you consider to edit the album, along with the digital editions, on Vinyl too? (as seen on the video).
BP: Wich countries do you want to visit and spread the word to as Oh Margot?
BP: Describe the band in 1 phrase or 3 words:
J: I like English because you don’t need many words to express an idea like in Spanish. I like it too that depending on the context, the same word can refer to either both genres, feminine and masculine. I love its phonetics when it comes to create voice melodies.
J: That’s correct. The goal with this three-songs EP and its videos its to become known outside Chile. To get a deal with a international record label and built up our way to a wide diffusion LP. Dreaming is free, but we’re working in order to accomplish that. We already have 12 songs for the LP, some of which we are playing live. We would love to edit our music in vinyl but we are concentrated on taking over of digital networks for now.
J: Its clearly that Mexico should be our 1st stop. We have a constant feedback from young people that write to us on the social networks, wich is surprising and it motivates us to plan a visit there soon. Our short-term goal is to get in to some international festival. Vive Latino, Rock al parque are some of them that make us very excited about.

En cuanto al video:
- BP: ¿Por qué eligieron "Beautiful embracement", como tema para su 1er video?
J: Esta canción es muy especial para
nosotros. Al momento de grabarla, la versión final del EP fue la 1era toma que
hicimos en estudio!!. Nos acomoda mucho tocarla y en sus
arreglos se muestra claramente nuestra propuesta musical. Teníamos que abrir
nuestra carrera con ella.
- BP: ¿Quién ideó el concepto? ¿Quién lo produjo? ¿Por quién está dirigido?
- BP: ¿Dónde fue grabado? ¿Por qué eligieron esta locación? ¿Qué conexión tienen con los personajes de la historia?
J: El personaje de todas nuestras canciones
es MARGOT, que nace del imaginario de Fab. Margot es una femme fatale, que
encarna todo lo que nos atrae y nos hace mal a los hombres. Katalina grabó en
su natal Tbilisi, Georgia, ex-URSS junto a su equipo de producción. La edición
y estética fue un trabajo en conjunto con Fab, que le imprimió su sello a la
imagen.
- BP: Why did you choose to make your 1st video with the song “Beautiful embracement”?
J: This song is very special for us. When recording it at the studio, the first take we made from it became the final one for the EP. We have fun playing it, and its arrangements show exactly what is our musical approach. We had to start our carrier with this song.
- BP: Who was in charge on the video concept? Who produced it? Who directed it?
J: Katalina Bakradze and Fab Ciraolo were in charge of the video concept. Fab met Katalina thanks to Fab illustrations that are through all the internet. Katalina contacted him to work together, and the result of that collaboration is a video for Oh Margot.
BP: Where did you filmed the video? Why did you choose this location? What links you to the characters of the music video?
J: The main character of all our songs is MARGOT, created by Fab's imaginary. Margot is a femme fatale that embodies all that we are attracted to and what makes bad to men. Katalina filmed the video at her home place, Tbilisi, Gergia, ex-URSS with her production team. The edition and esthetics was an altogether job with Fab, who put his artistic signature to it.
